My name is Katie (I'm the one in the middle). I am the owner and founder of Asana Armor! As a yoga instructor in Miami, FL, I practically live in yoga attire but had the hardest time finding styles that I liked. Most leggings I came across were see-through and I was constantly pulling them up throughout my practice. Some cost more than a package at my yoga studio! Overall they were just uncomfortable, distracting, and not all that cute. We should feel amazing in our active wear. It should support, cover, and boost you through even the toughest workouts. Which is exactly what Asana Armor was created to do: Make stylish active wear that's got your practice and your asana covered 😉.
What does asana mean?
Asana refers to the yoga practice of poses. It is also a sanskrit suffix meaning "pose" as in vrksasana, (tree pose) and Bakasana (crane pose).
Sustainability is really at the heart of Asana Armor. We consider sustainability in every aspect of the company from big picture fabric sourcing and manufacturing to details like using recycled size tags and packaging that is completely recyclable or made from recycled materials.
Our fabrics are made from recycled and other sustainable fibers. The line that have out now is predominately made from Repreve recycled polyester which essentially comes from recycled water bottles and other plastic. We also have some tops coming out in the future that will be made of a blend of this recycled repreve, recycled cotton, and tencel lyocell, a natural fiber that won the the “European Award for the Environment” because it is created from sustainable wood sources and has a closed loop production system so it recycles 99% plus of the water and solvent used in the fabric creation process. Completely biodegradable, It is also a super functional, butter soft fabric which is ideal for athletic/athleisure apparel. We are always looking for the newest and innovative development in eco-friendly fabrics.
We also very conscious of our carbon footprint and how far a material has to go to get to us in Miami, FL. We try to locally source as much as possible to minimize our environmental impact and form relationships with all of our suppliers. Right now, our fabric is made in the USA and even the elastic that we use is made locally here in Miami.
Of course, in order to get that stretchy-ness we all love in athletic wear, our fabrics often contain spandex, a synthetic man-made fiber. We are always searching for the best and newest developments in eco-friendly fabrics and hope in the future we will be able to replace even this stretchy athletic wear staple with something more green.
made with love in usa
Our fabrics are almost entirely made in the USA (our pockets have a mesh we are trying to source locally and from recycled materials) and we manufacture locally in Miami, FL. Even our elastic is made locally here in Miami, FL! That means you can feel confident about knowing who it is making your clothes and the conditions that they are working in.
